Koh Phi Phi Don Village

Early before sunrise we were woken by an unbelievable stench coming from the bathroom.  The generator had already been switched off.  It was 5.20am and we were told it ran till 6am.  The air was breathless and I couldn’t stomach the smell any longer so I lay in the hammock on the deck and read until after the sun came up.  Now, I’m not the one to complain about things like dust or mosquitoes in the room, especially if I’m paying near to nothing for the room, but after breakfast both Quint and I agreed to tell the manageress about the smell.  She sent the handy-man up to the room to investigate with Quint.  He immediately noticed that the water from the shower was not draining out properly and then started smelling like damp socks hanging in a bat cave!
Quint:  So after much hand signals to the handyman checking the drainage issue, he eventually got out two broken English words that brought us to agreement – “change room”.  The manageress showed us to the next door bungalow which was just as grotty unfortunately, but without the smell.  After unpacking into our new room we decided to head to the main town on the island by boat to do a bit of admin regarding the next days tickets and treat ourselves to a pizza which, in this part of the world costs the same as a 3 bedroom house!
